Island Peak Climbing is a fantastic climbing adventure in the Imja Valley of Everest region. Island Peak is also called Imja Tse which has an elevation of 6189 m. Island Peak is one of the most challenging trekking peaks in the eastern Himalayas. It is also the nearest trekking peaks to Mt. Everest, so the view from the summit is adorable. From the summit of Island Peak, you will get the magnificent views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Baruntse, Mt. Lhotse and many 7000m + peaks. The trip starts from Lukla and you will continue your trekking through the Everest Base Camp main trail experiencing traditional high-land culture of Sherpa, rare flora and fauna in Sagarmatha National Park, and stunning views of the mountains. From Dingboche, you will leave the main trail and head towards Imja Valley to reach the peak.

Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu (1400m)
It’s a fantastic feeling to fly over the land of Nepal. You can see beautiful snow-covered mountains. After you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by our team at the arrivals and escort you to your hotel.
Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour (B)
After having the early morning breakfast, you will move towards Kathmandu Durbar Square to tour around the Durbar Square. You will delight in the architectural wonder of the places like Hanuman Dhoka, Kumari Ghar, Gaddi Baithak, Taleju Temple etc. Then you make your way towards the Swayambhunath temple from where you can see the mesmerizing view of the whole Kathmandu valley. After having the wonderful view of the Kathmandu valley, you will continue towards Patan city. There you will visit Patan Durbar Square which is known for Krishna Mandir, Golden Temple and Patan Museum. After observing the wonders of Patan you will be back to your hotel for the night.
Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2860) – 30 min & Trek to Phakding (2651m) – 4 hrs (B,L,D)
You will take an early flight to Lukla which is a gateway to all Everest treks. You will meet your trek support team in Lukla and then start your trek to Phakding. While descending, you get a glimpse of Mt. Khumbila (a sacred mountain which has never been climbed) after which the region is named as Khumbu.
Day 04: Trek to Namche (3440m) – 5/6 hrs (B,L,D)
You will walk through pine forest and cross Dudh Koshi River and move towards Sagarmatha National Park. After entering Sagarmatha National Park, you will continue walking alongside Dudh Koshi and ascend on a steep trail to reach Namche Bazaar which is the biggest town of Everest region.
Day 05: Exploration Day (B,L,D)
Today, you will explore Namche Baazar. Namche being the biggest town in the region is fully facilitated. You can hike to museum and enjoy the sunrise over the mountains Everest, Mt. Lhotse and Ama Dablam. You can also visit Khumjung village and get some local experiences along with great views.
Day 06: Trek to Tengboche (3956m) – 5/6 hrs (B,L,D)
Today, you will walk along the switchback, first downhill and then uphill towards Tengboche. Tengboche village is famous for Tengboche monastery which is the biggest monastery of the Everest region. From the monastery you can get a panoramic view of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. Every evening Buddhist monks have a religious ceremony which you can observe the next morning.
Day 07: Trek to Dingboche (4380m) – 4/5 hrs (B,L,D)
Next morning, you will pass through the forest of birch, confer and rhododendron. While moving forward you can admire good views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam throughout. After reaching Pangboche you will choose the upper trail and visit Pangboche monastery and walk towards Imja Valley along the Imja River to reach Dingboche.
Day 08: Trek to Chhukung (4730m) – 3/4 hrs (B,L,D)
Today, you will have a short and easy talk to Chhukung. During the trek, you will witness the mani stones and the alpine terrain and some amazing views of Mt. Lhoste, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Makalu and Mt. Baruntse.
Day 09: Acclimatization Day (B,L,D)
Today is your acclimatization day before your climb to Island Peak. Without acclimatization, climbing to the high altitude will increase risk of altitude sickness. Acclimatization will help your body to get some time to adapt the altitudes. You can get some rest or explore Chhukung village or hike to Chhukung Ri.
Day 10: Trek to Island Peak Base camp (5200m) – 3/4 hrs (B,L,D)
You will have a short hike to Island Peak Base Camp. You will walk through the moraine formed by Lhotse Glacier. After a short walk you will reach Island Peak Base Camp which is located in between Imja Glacier and Lhoste Shar Glacier.
Day 11: Climbing Day (6189m) & Back to Island Base Camp – 11/12 hrs (B,L,D)
Early morning around 1 am, you will have some breakfast and ascend towards the Summit. You will have to reach the Summit before noon as there is risk of windy storm in the afternoon. You will ascend the rocky steps and pass through the rock gully. As you climb up the hill, you will need to use the equipments. The path has crevasses, rocks and steep ridge on the way to the Summit. The Summit will give you the breathtaking panorama of Mt. Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Baruntse, Mt. Lhotse and many 7000m + peaks. After spending some precious moments at the summit, you will head down to the Island Base Camp.
Day 12: Contingency Day (B,L,D)
This is a spare day in case of any kinds of inconvenience. In the higher altitude there will be unfavorable weather condition, so this day is used as a contingency day. If everything goes according to the plan, then you will continue your trek.
Day 13: Trek to Pangboche (3985m) – 5/6 hrs (B,L,D)
You will descend to Pangboche using the same trail. The trail follows the downhill path alongside Imja river to reach the village of Pangboche.
Day 14: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m) – 4/5 hrs (B,L,D)
Today your trial will descend down to Namche. This can be a long and hard day due to downhill and uphill walks. You will continue through the forest enjoying the views to reach Namche.
Day 15: Trek to Lukla (2860m) -6/7 hrs (B,L,D)
This is the last day of your trek. You will take a final goodbye to the magnificent Himalayan mountains and head towards Lukla and rest at a lodge.
Day 16: Fly to Kathmandu – 30 min (B)
After a long and mesmerizing trek, you will carry the memory of the trip and fly back to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu you will be escorted towards your hotel.
Day 17: Contingency Day (B)
Today is your contingency day in case of flight delay or cancellation. You can use this day as a free day and visit different places of Kathmandu for shopping and sightseeing.
Day 18: Final Departure (B)
This is your last day in Nepal. You will be taken to the airport for your flight back home.
